Public Hearings and Public Comment regarding the proposed Mathematics SOL 

The Board seeks comments to acquire quality feedback to help Virginia create best in class Standards for the children of the Commonwealth. Public comment regarding the proposed 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning may be offered through public hearings or the online public comment form through August 11, 2023.  

Public Hearings – In-Person 

Each in-person public hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Registration of speakers will begin at 6:00 p.m. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and should bring copies of their comments for the Board of Education. The public hearings will be held at the following locations:   

  • July 27, 2023
    Public Hearing – Fredericksburg
    Germanna Community College, Fredericksburg Area Campus, V. Earl Dickinson Building (SP1), 10000 Germanna Point Drive, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22408 (Room #212)
     
  • July 31, 2023
    Public Hearing - Hampton
    Peninsula Virginia Community College, 600 Butler Farm Road, Suite A, Hampton, Virginia 23666 (Conference Center Room #1301)

    Public Hearing - Abingdon

Public Hearings – Virtual 

Pre-registration will be required for virtual public hearings. Registrants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the public hearing. Speakers will have three minutes to speak and are asked to submit copies of their comments electronically for the Board of Education. The virtual public hearings will be held on the following dates and times:

Vision Statement

Harrisonburg City Schools supports students who are actively engaged in building their own mathematical understanding.  We expect all students to reason, explain, apply, and connect mathematical knowledge through a variety of rigorous learning opportunities.  Teachers act as facilitators and implement equitable mathematics experiences that allow all students to explore, communicate, and represent their ideas in different ways.
