By joining Blue Streak Bands, you’re establishing an instant on-campus network of friends and classmates who share your passion for music, performance and achievement. Our award-winning Marching Blue Streak Band performs home (and select away) football games, local parades and regularly competes in local, regional and state events. Plus our concert and symphonic bands, small group ensembles and our guard are regionally recognized for their outstanding achievements.

No Music or Band Experience Necessary

While most students who join HHS Bands have music and performance background from Middle School band, we welcome all students who are interested. For those who play keyboards, our front ensemble is a perfect option. Our Color Guard welcomes those who have an interest in music, dance, drill, acrobatics, gymnastics, or cheering — with or without prior experience. And Harrisonburg High School Bands are always open to starting students on new instruments to pursue their musical passion. Directors will work with you to find the best individual path to success for new members.  

Music and Competition

In our competitive marching band, you gain experience as a performing musician and you’re part of a Harrisonburg team competing against other schools.  Each season the Marching Blue Streak Band travels around the state performing their competitive production for audiences, peers and adjudicators.  In recent years, they have received first place and Grand Championship awards at numerous competitions. In 8 year's time they have grown from a AA size competitive unit to a AAAAA size competitive unit, labeled one of the fastest growing programs in the state.

Leadership and Scholarship

Harrisonburg Band members are leaders at school who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement. Band members master time management, devoting long hours to band practice while attaining a higher-level academic success. Band members score better than their peers on standard college placement tests and have been named to the top of their class multiple times over the years.  They receive music and academic scholarships and individual awards. 

Friendship and Fun

Band friends are fun, and friends for life. Our band members share great experiences at school, during practice, at summer camp, and while traveling together. In recent years, the Marching Blue Streak Band and Harrisonburg High School Fine Arts Departments has traveled to Indianapolis, Orlando, New York City and Chicago. Many band alumni remain friends in college and throughout their adult lives.
