W.H. Keister Elementary School was built in 1955 and named in honor of Dr. William H. Keister, who served in the Harrisonburg public school system for more than fifty years. In 1955 Keister Elementary housed grades K-7. Many additions and changes have been made over the years. During the 1999-2000 school year major renovations and updates were completed. The school now houses grades Pre-K through Grade 5. Additionally, Keister offers resource and support programs including Music, Art, Reading First, Title I, Physical Education, Speech-Language, English speakers of other languages, Guidance Counseling, Dual Language Programs, and services for the gifted and talented. We are proud of our nature trail, gymnasium, large playground facilities, state of the art cafeteria, and media center.
