Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Harrisonburg City Public Schools! Our schools depend on volunteers and value their contributions to enhance the programs and services provided for students. Volunteers are important members of the HCPS community and help our professional staff sustain effective learning environments, enrich the education and experiences of students and build critical partnerships to increase achievement for all students.
All volunteer candidates must complete the following steps before volunteering and before the start of each school year.
- Complete the HCPS volunteer screening process, which includes submitting a signed HCPS Volunteer Registration Form.
- Volunteers are screened to ensure a safe learning environment and allow the school system to identify individuals who may pose a risk to students, staff, or the school system.
- Attend a volunteer training session (at your assigned school).
- Training sessions may occur at any time throughout the school year as needed.
- Information covered in all training will include:
- a review of the HCPS Volunteer Handbook;
- an overview of the role and conduct of volunteers in the schools;
- review of school and student safety and security;
- a discussion about laws, policies, and rules related to volunteering.
