Three Pathways - One HHS Governor's STEM Academy

Health Care Pathway

The Health Care Pathway will make sure students who are interested in a career in health care are prepared to pursue it either through entering continuing education or moving directly into the workforce. Career options in this field include but are not limited to, certified nursing assistant (CNA), phlebotomist, emergency medical technician (EMT), pharmacy technician, dental technician, and veterinary assistant. These fields continue to be well-paying and in-demand across a wide range of post-HS education requirements.

This pathway will prepare a student for college and career and is intended to be flexible enough to meet individual needs and interests.  Opportunities exist for students to earn a variety of health care certifications prior to high school graduation. Interested students need to complete an application as an 8th grader. There is also the opportunity to apply during 9th grade to join this pathway as a 10th grader.

Mathematics & Science Pathway

The Mathematics and Science pathway engages the college-bound student in rigorous study and application of mathematical and science topics in a collaborative, integrated manner. Students will be introduced to research during their freshmen year and are encouraged to pursue their own research interests while enrolling in appropriate Advanced Placement courses in math and science during their junior and senior years.

This pathway appeals to students with an interest in preparing for careers in Math and Science related fields after undergraduate and possible graduate degrees. This pathway allows for individual flexibility in pursuing an in-depth study of personal interest in the area of Math and Science. 

Technology & Engineering Pathway

The Technology and Engineering pathway is for the college-bound student who wants to focus on technology and project-based learning. This is the logical pathway for the aspiring engineer but serves a wider range of students who wish to develop and use a design mentality that can be useful in any endeavor. Engineering and technical degrees continue to be lucrative degrees with job opportunities outgrowing degree awardees.

This pathway will prepare a student for college while concentrating on providing opportunities and instruction regarding technical and collaborative work skills. The three engineering courses are strongly project-based and allow students to design, engineer, build, and communicate in group settings. Students apply to be in the STEM Academy as eighth-graders and then choose either the Technology and Engineering or the Mathematics and Science pathway as they schedule their sophomore year.
