After-School Strings Program
Harrisonburg City Public Schools, in partnership with Eastern Mennonite University’s Preparatory Music Program, offers after-school strings classes for students in grades 3-5 and 9-12! Middle School Strings is now offered as part of our comprehensive curriculum for students in grades 6-8 at Thomas Harrison and Skyline Middle School. See the information below for your grade level.
Elementary School Information
After-school violin classes are offered at all 6 elementary schools. Register for 2019-20 elementary classes by August 30! Space is limited so register early!
A required orientation meeting for all elementary students will be held on September 11 at 6:30pm at Smithland Elementary’s auditorium.
Register now for fall violin classes by filling out an application below. NOTE: There is a separate application form for Stone Spring Elementary.
Instruments: The program provides instruments for free-lunch students (no additional charge) and reduced lunch students ($20/year).
Students who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch must provide their own instrument. Information will be provided at the Orientation meeting. One option is to rent through Tiller Strings, a local company, for $25 per month. Tiller Strings will be at the Orientation meeting. Parents may also purchase an instrument, but please wait until your child is sized at the Orientation meeting.
High School Information
The after-school string ensembles will meet each Monday beginning September 9. More information will be coming soon!
