Science students swarm Valley Mall on Harrisonburg City Public Schools' STEM Day
The event highlighted a wide range of science demonstrations and activities for students. It was also a showcase for science, technology, engineering and math projects students have been working on, including the solar-powered mini cars that the city’s fifth graders built at school. This year’s event included a “chemistry magic show,” robotics demonstrations, and CPR training for kids, among other exhibitions. In the center of the mall, Civil Air Patrol members demonstrated aviation concepts for kids, including hydraulic machinery and a flight simulator.
HCPS Interpreters Clubs boosting students’ confidence and language skills
The club’s mission is to develop the interpretation and fluency skills of bilingual students while giving back through community service and volunteer interpretation experiences, such as parent-teacher conferences when needed and other school events. HCPS is also in its second year of partnership with the Academy of Interpretation. The collaboration grants students who are interested and selected to further their skills access to specialty courses and certifications.
