Mission Statement
The mission of HCPS is to create a literate community by providing systematic explicit reading instruction within a research based reading program. Success will be determined by student performance on local, state, and national assessments. We commit to a comprehensive system of literacy support to create this outcome.
Program Expectations
- Minimum of 90 minutes reading/language arts instruction
- Research based reading programs
- Informal and formal assessments used to guide instruction, guide instruction, placement and intervention
- Pacing guides for reading instruction are followed K-12
- All teachers follow the testing windows for formal assessments at each grade level using the testing charts for K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
